California emissions grants deadline is April 1
Applications must be submitted to the California Air Resources Board by April 11 to qualify for the latest round of funding to retrofit or replace trucks to reduce emissions.
Grants also are available to reduce idling and emissions from refrigerated trailers.
Under CARB’s 2008 Multi-District Project Solicitation, $8.6 million is available for projects that will travel across more than one of the state’s local air districts and accumulate at least 75 percent of miles (or fuel consumption) within California during the project life.
A minimum project life of three years is required, and each project will be evaluated primarily on the amount of emissions reduced per dollar spent.
Projects must not be mandated by any federal, state or local regulation, a rule that will disqualify many California truckers affected by regulations recently adopted statewide and by the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach.
Applications must be mailed or hand-delivered to CARB's Sacramento office; they will not be accepted via fax or e-mail.
