CIAQC thanks industry for support at CARB Workshops
We thank the more than 300 contractors and other equipment owners who attended the California Air Resources Board (CARB) workshops this week in Sacramento, Los Angeles and Fresno—it was a worthwhile effort and your participation was critically important.
CARB staff was listening to your comments and will make changes in the proposed regulation based on what they heard from you and others at the meetings. They will make more changes if you help them understand the financial underpinnings of our industry.
They have made a lot of changes in this process: increased the inventory by 50 percent; created a series of exemptions for specialty equipment and eliminated NOx requirements for small fleets (less than 1500 combined horsepower).
They say they are willing to do more, but not without hard data on the economic impact on the industry. They need to understand contractor profitability—and, since they don’t trust associations or groups like the Construction Industry Air Quality Coalition, they want to get this information straight from you.
This is the key to getting any additional relief from their 10 percent per year engine turnover requirement. You can help with this in two ways:
- CARB will provide you with a roadmap for your fleet’s compliance with the proposed regulation if you provide them with your financial data and equipment turnover plans. Contact Elizabeth Yura, Air Resources Engineer at eyura@arb.ca.gov or call 916-323-2397 to share your data.
- If you don’t trust government agencies with your financial data, you can provide the same information to CIAQC on a strictly confidential basis. Click here for details and form to fill out and fax back.
